 GoldWatch روتر و فايروال نرم‌افزاري است که می‌توان بر روي انواع کامپيوترهاي فيزيکي يا ماشین‌های مجازي نصب کرد و يک فايروال حرفه‌ای با امکانات و قابلیت‌های اطمينان سطح بالا را در اختيار داشت.

فایروال‌های نرم‌افزاري، سیستم‌ها را از خطراتي که در اينترنت وجود دارد اعم از دسترسی‌های غیرمجاز ، تروجان‌ها و کدهاي مخرب ، کرم‌های کامپيوتري و بسياري ديگر از اين موارد حفاظت می‌کنند.

قوانینی که در یک فایروال وجود دارد براساس نیازمندی‌های امنیتی یک سازمان تعیین می‌شود. برای مثال اگر فایروال براساس قوانینی که در آن تعیین شده تشخیص دهد، ترافیکی که از آن عبور می‌کند برای شبکه مضر است، بلافاصله آن را بلاک می‌کند و از ورود آن به شبکه جلوگیری به عمل می‌آورد. روش‌هایی که این فایروال توسط آن‌ها ترافیک را مدیریت می‌کند به ترتیب روش فیلترینگ بسته یا Packet Filtering، پروکسی سرور و یا Stateful Inspection هستند.

با داشتن رابط گرافیکی تحت وب موجود در این فایروال، تقریبا تمامی فغالیت‌های مورد نیاز را از این درگاه می‌توان برطرف کرد.
